A stimulating event held in Whatley (St George's Church) Friday 22nd November
There was something about the red-orange glow, spilling out through the arched windows into the winter night - chilled, starlit, still - and being within the red-lit, hand-hewn walls of that building, that felt like we were there to discover something of a mind-blowing nature. Thank you to everyone who came and explored, what a beautiful gathering ❤️
I'm left with so many images. One is of the famous painting of the Sistine Chapel. Little did I know, because of his platonist beliefs, that Michelangelo's depiction of 'God' and his surrounding host was most likely formed around the shape and different parts of the human brain (image below). And the intriguing drawings of 'knowledge machines' of the heretic Giordano Bruno of Rome in his attempt to 'fill that gap' - metaphorically - between the hovering pointing finger of Adam and the divine.
And so inside that little room of deep history Kester encouraged us to dive into the questions that AI provokes. Is knowledge what will cross the divide, or really opening more widely to the idea that 'we do not know'...? And so we come together in the mystery, the acknowledgement of that lack. And that is the knowing, the collective mind that meets, across difference and divides, in communion. Big questions for us all 🙏🏼
